Oddar Meanchey, Cambodia — Explosions reverberated distant along the Thai-Cambodia border , as a Cambodian soldier waited his turn for surgery to get rid of shrapnel embedded in his body from a Thai weapons shell.
The soldier said he was wounded in battling with Thai troops on Friday near the old Ta Moan Thom holy place along the disputed border separating the Cambodian district of Oddar Meanchey and the Thai province of Surin.
“I have shrapnel in my back and it hasn’t been removed yet. I need surgical procedure,” the soldier informed Al Jazeera, hing on bed in a health center hallway, his better half and boy seated on the floor beside him.
“They took me to the military health center initially, however they really did not have an X-ray [machine],” the soldier claimed.
“When I was hit, my clothes were blown off,” he included.
A second hurt Cambodian soldier told just how he took shrapnel to his left shoulder while dealing with near the Ta Krabei temple, an additional disputed place on the Thai-Cambodia border.
